Student Rights and Responsibilities

The Students’ Association is open for all students registered in one or more credit classes at either the Main Campus or the Brooks Campus regardless of age, sex, race, sexual orientation or ideology.

All members have the right to:

  1. Vote in all Students’ Association elections and referenda
  2. Join any club, hold office in any club recognized and supported by the Students’ Association
  3. Participate in all recreational and athletic programs supported by their student fees
  4. Serve on regular and special committees of the Association
  5. Petition the Association, MHC Administration or the College Board of Governors through the Association
  6. Enjoy the benefits provided by the Students’ Association in representation and programming which their student fees establish or support
  7. Run in Students’ Association elections

All Students’ Association members are also asked to read the Medicine Hat College Calendar and refer to Academic Policies and Rights and Responsibilities. These are clearly defined in the College Calendar and are to be adhered to by all students.

Academic Appeals and Grievances
This is an ongoing issue for the Students’ Association, we truly believe this to be an area that students are the least informed and we are vowing to change this to best serve our students. In the College Calendar there is a flowchart describing the Appeal process, the Students’ Association wants all of its members to know that we can assist you with this. Come to our office and see the VP Academic, it is their job to guide you through this process. Remember you have a right!
